McKinney police arrested a 22-year-old male who brandished a sword at the 7-11 at 7990 eldorado Prakway in the early hours of May 27.
Officers with the McKinney Police Department responded to an aggravated robbery at the 7-11 Convenience Store after the store clerk called 911 to report that an unknown Asian male dressed in all black clothing had just entered the store, displayed a sword, and demanded cash and cigarettes from him, said Lt. Scott Brewer.
The store clerk complied with the suspect’s request, and the suspect then fled the location northbound on Stonebridge Drive driving a gray Nissan Altima bearing the Texas license plate PUP809, Brewer said.
An officers located the suspect vehicle at approximately 2:45 a.m., just four minutes after the call for service was dispatched. The driver of the vehicle and suspect, Phong Nguyen was in possession of a sword, as well as money and merchandise allegedly taken from the 7-11 store, Brewer said. Nguyen was arrested and booked in at the Collin County Sheriffs Office (CCSO) for aggravated robbery, which is a first degree felony. No one was injured during the robbery.
The McKinney PD commends both the store clerk and the officers of the McKinney PD for their deliberate actions that resulted in the apprehension of Nguyen, Brewer said.
