Maurice Malvern, who is involved in the city of McKinney's PRIDE or program has turned in his application to be a McKinney City Council District 1 candidate in the May 9 city election, said Holly Harmon in the City Secretary's Office.
Malvern is a leader in the city's Lewisville neighborhood, located east of State Highway 5, PRIDE group, which stands for promoting residential involvement, development and enthusiasm. Malvern will face downtown McKinney developer Don Day and longtime McKinney resident Randall Wilder in the election.
Community leader Sherry Tucker David, who ran in the 2008 at-large council election but lost to Council member Pete Huff, has picked up a candidate application for the at-large council seat. Tucker David had not turned in the application to the city as of close of business on March 4. If Tucker David does turn in her paperwork to be an at-large candidate she will face Independent Bank Chairman David Brooks, who has turned in his paper work to be an at-large candidate.
Kevin Griffin, who also works for Independent Bank in McKinney, has withdrawn his application to be an at-large candidate in the city election.
