McKinney P &Z retreat to review and monitor development trends on May 26

The McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission will review and monitor development trends and progress on the city's Comprehensive Plan in three retreat workshops to be held at the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library.

The retreat will be featured over a three days, and the first will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tues., May 26; 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Fri., June 5; and 2 to 5 p.m. on Tues., June 23. The retreats will be held at the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library,101 E. Hunt St.

John Kessel, Executive Director of the city's Development Services Division, and Brian James, Deputy Director of the Development Services Department will speak for about 30 minutes about the Comprehensive Plan process. Both Kessel and James are former city planning directors and have each worked for the city more than 10 years. A snapshot of development trends and potential issues will also be discussed on May 26.

On the June 5 retreat the discussion will include a field trip through McKinney relating to development activity and the June 23 retreat meeting will include a work session to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunity threats and to prioritize actions and issues.

Council member for District 2 and P & Z Commission council liaison Geralyn Kever and P & Z Commission Chairman Robbie Clark organized the retreat.

The retreat will include a discussion of implementation of the city's Comprehensive Plan; identify adjustments needed to achieve plan goals, prioritize issues and actions, and to determine next steps; and will focus on building teamwork.

The P & Z Commission retreat is open to the public and McKinney City Council members may also attend the meeting but a council meeting will not be held in conjunction with the May 26 meeting, according to the agenda on the city's Web site www.mckinneytexas.org under the Development Services drop down menu and under the P & Z Agenda link.
