Deadline for McKinney Red, White and Boom Fourth of July downtown parade is fastly approaching
The deadline for people to enter the Red, White & Boom Fourth of July parade that will be held in downtown McKinney is fastly approaching.
This year's Red, White and Boom event will be held on one day only this year, on July 4 in both downtown McKinney and in Craig Ranch. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. on July 4 and the parade will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
This year's parade theme is "Hometown Hero" and the McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau is in charge of organizing the parade this year. The MCVB is requesting local organizations, neighborhood associations, children's organizations, and others to sign up to be included the parade. The deadline to enter an application is 5 p.m. on Fri., June 26.
The parade route this year is different from last year's, which began at Finch Park and traveled along residential neighborhoods south of downtown. This year's parde will begin at the northeast corner of Hunt and Tennessee streets, near the Hall Memorial Library, and will then travel one block north to Lamar Street, then one block west to Kentucky Street, and will then head a few blocks to Louisiana Street, and will then travel one block east to Tennessee Street, and will head back north to Hunt Street.
All entries must report in no later than 9:30 a.m. The cost to enter is $25 per organization and checks must be made to the McKinney Main Street and applications must be picked up or dropped off to the MCVB ofice at 321 N. Central Expressway, Ste. 101, in the First Bank and Trust Building at the northwest corner of US 75 and Virginia Parkway.
Prizes for the parade will be awarded for best entries. The first place parade prize is $500; second place prize is $250; and third place prize is $100. Visit the following link to apply to be a parade participant:

The downtown events for Red, White and Boom will feature an antique car show in the public parking lot in the former Collin County Courthouse at 210 S. McDonald St. in the morning of July 4.
At 4:30 p.m. events will begin at the Soccer Complex at Craig Ranch. Those events include a concert with the Anna and McKinney area based rock band IMI, children's activities and a free fireworks show at sundown.
The city's Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department is organizing this year's Red, White and Boom event.
