Art education meets Texas history at the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts in June
Studio ArtHouse McKinney is presenting a comprehensive series of classes, camps, and workshops for all ages in the Carriage House of the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts.
Classes will be held in the two storied Carriage House, which is situated just behind the Heard-Craig House. The building has been historically used to house the meetings of a variety of McKinney Clubs, including the Art Club of McKinney, which is the oldest club of its kind in Texas.
The week of June 29, campers aged 4 through 12 will use their imaginations to travel through time to arrive at great moments in art history to draw, paint, sculpt, and collage. Weeklong camp themes include “Passport to Paris 1888”, and “Walk Like an Egyptian”, and “San Francisco Summer of Love." Oil painting and fashion design workshops for teens are scheduled in July as well.
"Kathryn Heard Craig would be delighted to see children painting in her garden and receiving art instruction in the Carriage House. An accomplished watercolorist by the age of 8, she recognized and appreciated the life-long importance of art education," said Heard-Craig Executive Director, Barbara Johnson.
Branching out from their current location of four years at 4150 Eldorado Parkway, Studio ArtHouse owner Molly Goodall feels that the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts' historic setting has a lot to offer students.
“We are very excited to be in downtown McKinney at such a beautiful and unique location. The Heard-Craig Garden gives us opportunities to draw and paint outside, and we hope parents will enjoy visiting the Heard-Craig House or strolling the square while their children attend class," Goodall said.
