Volunteer opportunities available through the Volunteer McKinney Center

The following is a list of volunteer opportunities that are available at the Volunteer McKinney Center beginning June 24.

  • Fourth of July celebration volunteer needs - Two Fourth of July events are seeking volunteers to help the community celebrate our nation’s birthday.  Red, White and Boom needs volunteers from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Soccer Fields of Craig Ranch to assist with the children’s area or other activity areas as needed.  The Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank Off at Chestnut Square Historical Village needs volunteers to assist at the ice cream stations, handing out tasting cups, selling water, giving directions, and coordinating supplies.   Both of these events include festivities for the entire family and are a great way to serve and meet your community neighbors.  To find out how to volunteer, go to the VMC Web site and look under “News” and “Updated Listings.”
  • Protect city's storm water by volnteering - To raise awareness of storm water issues and encourage residents to protect water resources, the City of McKinney’s Storm Water Management Department has scheduled its first annual Storm Water Inlet Marking (SWIM) project on Saturday, July 25, 2009.  Every storm water inlet in McKinney must be marked to deter residents from dumping trash and chemicals into the city’s waterways.  Since volunteers ages 10 and up may participate, it’s a great opportunity for Boy and Girl Scout groups to gain experience in environmental education.  One hundred individuals and groups of all ages are needed for this project.  Guidelines for participating can be found on the VMC Web site.  Click on Storm Water Inlet Marking under “New Listings.”
  • Designated Driver.   The 17th Annual MADD Golf Classic will be held Sept. 22 at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.  Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up, check-in, lunch, tournament play, the auction, and pictures.  For additional information, look for “MADD Charity Golf Classic” under New Listings on the VMC Web site, listed below.
