Mayoral, council candidates square off in local forums from now until May 4

The McKinney City Council and mayoral candidates are getting the chance to tell residents why exactly they are running and also ask questions about how they plan to build natatoriums amid a city budget deficit, maintain the city's quality of life and spurring economic growth.
The North Collin County Republican Women’s group will hold a candidate forum at 7 p.m. on Thurs., April 2 for all of the candidates. The North Collin County Republican Women know that the election is a non-partisan election and the group is holding the forum as a public service for McKinney voters, said event organizers. The forum will be held in Pike Hall at the Central Campus of Collin College, 2200 W. University Drive. All candidates can start checking in at 6:30 p.m. The candidates will be asked questions from the public about why they’re running for office.
A forum is also being held for mayoral and council candidates from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sun., April 5 at the Eldorado Country Club, 2604 Country Club Drive. The McKinney Chamber of Commerce will also hold a mayoral and council candidate forum at 7:30 a.m. on Fri., April 17 at the Eldorado Country Club. The League of Women Voters of Collin County will also hold a meet the candidates forum from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thurs., April 16 at the McKinney Senior Recreation Center, 1400 S. College St. in McKinney.
The Chamber's political action committee the Committee to Inform Voters on Business and Candidates, or CIVBIC, has also submitted questionnaires to all mayoral and council candidates and the answers will be included on the Chamber's Web site, said Lisa Ferrell, the Chamber's Public Policy and Communications Director. When asked if the Chamber PAC will endorse candidates in the upcoming May 9 election Ferrell said via an e-mail that the members of the CIVBIC board of directors had not decided if they would endorse candidates or not this year.
The Collin County Conservative Republicans group is hosting a McKinney mayoral and council debate at 7 p.m. on May 4 at the McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee St.
